About Us

Built in 1921, the Wilmington Magnolia House is a classic Colonial residence located in the Carolina Heights neighborhood in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.  Carolina Heights was developed in the early 1900s as a subdivision that would have modern conveniences such as electric lines, water lines and gas. Today, the Magnolia House welcomes guests to experience modern conveniences and comfort while also enjoying the beautiful architecture and details of an historic home.

About Us

Come and enjoy everything that downtown Wilmington has to offer from the comfort of this fully furnished, 4000 square foot home with security system, and many special amenities.  The Magnolia House is in the perfect location- just a 15-minute walk to the bustling riverfront, a 15-minute drive to the beach, and yet, perfectly situated amid the peaceful, tall live oak trees that line the residential streets of historic, downtown Wilmington. This Bed and Breakfast is clean and well equipped for our guests.

Our B&B is a modern take on the way people travel. With an on-site manager who resides on the property, you will still feel as though you are completely alone and have complete privacy. Our wonderful manager, Katie, lives in a separate unit on the grounds. She has a separate entrance to the yard and is available only to the extent that you wish her to be. She will check you in and check you out, and she will be available for any emergencies during your stay. Need to find a flashlight? Katie will be there to show you where it is! But, if you desire privacy and the feeling that you are home without having to say "hello" each morning, you can have that as well. We provide a DIY breakfast with fresh fruit, juice, eggs and bacon in the refrigerator so that you can make your own breakfast in the morning. Welcome to the modern B&B in the historic neighborhood!

Every room is bathed in sunlight with huge windows, many facing the large garden in the backyard with its old gracious magnolia tree, and pathway leading down three steps to a lower formal garden, Camelia trees and Azaleas.

The house is filled with original details including 10 foot ceilings, a wide brick path, the call buttons used in the 1920's. There are 3 fireplaces (one working) with large orante decorative mantels. The house was recently included in the Wilmington Historic Foundation Historic Home Tour, and has also been used as a location for several TV series and commercials in the past.

Our guests tell us that they love the chef’s kitchen with its stainless steel countertops and three sinks. Cooking for a large group is a pleasure in this well equipped and spacious kitchen. The appliances are all new, including a new double door stainless steel refrigerator There is also an additional catering refrigerator and a deep freezer, making this space easy to host a gathering. There is seating for 6 around the kitchen island for informal meals. The formal dining room seats 8 people comfortably for formal meals, including rehearsal dinners or large family gatherings or holiday dinners. Catering can be arranged if needed (must be requested in advance).

The den is a comfortable retreat with cozy seating, built in book shelves, and a brand new 42 inch flat screen 'smart' HDTV which allows you to wirelessly stream movies and TV shows and surf the Web. There is also an octagon shaped game table for an impromptu poker night! Our most recent addition to the den is an XBOX 360 to keep the kids (and maybe even a few adults) entertained. There are 4 wireless remote controls and 16 games. Bring your games along with you if you have a favorite!
